Gastspreker BMAT Taster Course, Leiden, Nederland: Biomedici

Sometimes you meet people in your lives and you know instantly that they are going to be part of your orbit for longer. During my last 7 days in The Netherlands I met a beautiful woman: Marjolein van Vliet. Randomly one day, she sent me a message: "So cool you are organising BMAT courses! It's such a hurdle for some people. So glad I didn't have to do it." And that's how our friendship started. On 8th October she will be volunteering like the rest of us & she will be giving a talk about what it's like to study Biomedical Sciences, how she experienced this study at Leiden University and she will give us an insight intoTopFem: an international network for ambitious young women! Thank you Marjolein van Vliet for believing in us and the work that we do. Very grateful! Are you a student (15 years or above)? Teacher? Decaan? School principal?

Marjolein Van Vliet

During the free BMAT Taster Course, Marjolein van Vliet will tell you more about the study Biomedical Sciences and how she experienced it. This is a short introduction about her: My name is Marjolein van Vliet and I graduated from the master Biomedical Sciences at Leiden University last January. I decided to broaden myself by following both the research and the management pathway. Basically, there are in total 4 biomedical sciences master at Leiden University. All master start with one year of research. The second year you either specialise yourself in research, communication, management or education.

After I decided not to continue my career as a PhD student, I started my job search outside of the academic hospital environment. That's how I found something interesting… Almost all employers ask for a minimum of 3 years of experience, a board year, have been abroad for your study and preferably also have started your own company. That’s why I started the Leadership Programme at TopFem. TopFem is an international oriented network for ambitious young females (both students and young professionals). During your study, you only gain knowledge about hard skills well you need your soft skill as much to be successful. While following the Leadership Programme I improved my soft skills e.g. listening, communicating, personal leadership, my passion. Apply to our Free
